Southeast Asia

Between 2001 and 2019, researchers calculated that Southeast Asia lost 610,000 square kilometres (235,500 square miles) of forest – an area larger than Thailand. 31% of this deforestation occurred in mountainous regions where highland forests has been converted to cropland and plantation in less than two decades.

WHAT?

The Artist bundle is designed to plant fruit-bearing and flowering species, which blossom into visually stunning landscapes and very quickly restore natural beauty to areas that had been repurposed for industrial gains.

Architect

Architect

WHAT?

By balancing the growth of short- and longlife trees, conservationists increase the chances that the forest is still thriving for generations to come. The Architect bundle is designed to maximise the survival rate and longevity of the forest, which leverages assisted natural regeneration techniques to plant a sustainable forest.

Catalyst

Catalyst

WHAT?

The ability of forests to regenerate after land abandonment in human-modified landscapes relies on four basic mechanisms: seed rain, soil seed bank, seedling bank and resprouting from remaining plants. The Catalyst bundle is designed to reinvigorate the forest and encourage 'seed rain', by attracting seed-dispersing animals in the early stages of site recapture to increase the rate of natural forest succession.

Backbone

Backbone

WHAT?

When it comes to offsetting carbon, research has shown that size matters. By planting tree species that yield rapid biomass accumulation, the Backbone bundle is designed to maximise the forest's carbon sequestration results. The Backbone bundle is designed to plant species that grow quickly and store the largest amounts of carbon.  whilst simlutaneously creating a nurturing environment for other species.

Guardian

Guardian

WHAT?

By planting pioneer species, conservationists can secure the planting site and shield the more vulnerable species from harsh external environments. The Guardian bundle is designed to achieve this by accelerating the speed of canopy closure and site recapture, which secures a more hospitable environment for a biodiverse ecosystem to flourish.
